About the Artist
Cathy Mitsuko Kosaki Yanger is a clay artist from Hawaii born to 3rd generation Japanese-American parents. Together with her husband Oscar Taitano Yanger from Guam, they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Her passion for clay pottery began in the late 80’s and she later received her BA in Fine Arts from UH Manoa. Over the years, Cathy continued to hone her clay pottery skills, creating beautiful and functional art pieces that she shared with family and friends. Cathy has shared her artwork throughout Hawaii, including at art stores that featured local artists, pop-up sales at coffee shops, private home sales, and holiday sales on campus. Cathy has been featured as a local artist in Hawaii in “Oahu Magazine” which identified her pottery artwork in line with the Japanese Wabi-sabi style, characteristic of asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, and intimacy.
